Ceramics: a good option to cover your pool?

Actualizado: 12 mar 2024

Lately, the use of ceramics to cover swimming pools has become popular and, although this material has exceptional and distinctive characteristics, today we are going to tell you why it is not ideal to cover your pool with it and whether to opt for other types of coatings.

As mentioned previously, ceramic is a material that can be used for different functions since it has various characteristics that make it unique. It is one of the most durable materials in the world; perfect for multiple uses. As they have a high degree of variety, they can be used to cover bathrooms, kitchens, floors, exteriors, among other examples. But are they recommended for coating swimming pools?

It is public knowledge of the proliferation in the market of this new ceramic/tile trend " Venice simile " that, at first glance, is similar to the Venetian mosaic but is far from complying with the same characteristics and qualities:

Firstly, ceramics do not have the property of being non-slip and, when it comes to covering a pool, they are slippery , especially in the most sensitive and heavily trafficked parts such as wet beaches or stairs; That is why ceramics are not the most recommended for this purpose.

Furthermore, as they are not prepared to be submerged, over time they absorb moisture and the pieces can come off or, worse, crack . This last case is very dangerous since the enamel becomes a sharp element, which can be extremely dangerous. dangerous for both children and adults.

On the other hand, although they are aesthetically attractive as well as their low cost, they cannot be easily adapted to a certain surface. That is, when making cuts and adjusting the ceramic iron, it can end up fracturing since they are not prepared for this function as they adapt to different areas.

As is known, polypropylene venices have the property of being non-slip, thermal insulating and flexible; which makes them ideal for covering a bathroom, kitchen or pool. On the other hand, the uniformity of its joints prevents the detachment of the pads in the long term, something very common with any other type of veneers and material. This last feature is of utmost importance since it prevents possible damage or cuts and, as well, guarantees that the pool is always aesthetically perfect.

When looking for quality coatings with non-slip properties and durability over time, it would be best to choose materials specifically designed and tested for these purposes. Although at first glance these new ceramics may seem like an attractive option due to their low cost and aesthetic appeal, ultimately choosing them could put people in danger, as well as lead to costly repairs or replacements in the future.

Customers should be careful when considering imitations, as their choice could compromise not only safety, but also aesthetic value over time due to cracking issues arising from the inferior quality of the material compared to using authentic Venecitas. All aspects should be considered before making any decisions about alternatives, and professional advice on best practice should always be sought.

Finally, we conclude this article by emphasizing the importance of evaluating potential purchases, primarily by scrutinizing information about the origin of the product, so that we obtain exactly what fits our needs, thus eliminating future inconveniences related to materials used and seeking the opinion of professionals when necessary.
